Coffee with Fergus

1. What is your role at Sonar?

I am an associate consultant at Sonar. I work with both the performance team and the web development team, assisting with all sorts of tasks across a range of channels. Recently, I’ve been helping to manage some projects, which has been really interesting and a nice challenge.

2. What are your personal career goals?

To be my own boss – but I don’t know much beyond that! Ideally, I’ll always be doing something that gives me the opportunity to learn new skills and improve myself.

3. What is a perfect work day for you?

I love heading into the Sonar office when we can, so I guess the perfect work day would involve getting myself out of bed early enough to cook a nice breakfast before heading in. We have a great coffee place across the road, so a mid morning latte and then a banh mi for lunch is the dream. In terms of the actual work, I love when I can work with lots of different clients in the one day. And on a perfect day, I’ll head out for a couple of beers with friends or colleagues after knocking off.

4. Where do you look for inspiration for your work?  (websites, podcasts, publications etc)

I think for the most part, I find the most inspiration when I’m going about my day to day life – being in digital marketing, it’s hard to not notice the ways other companies are selling themselves online. I’m often distracted by thoughts about a company’s website design or the way certain ads in my facebook feed draw my attention.

5. What do you enjoy outside of work?

Watching and playing sports is for sure one of my biggest interests. Doesn’t really matter what it is, I’m normally interested. I also love travel, whether it’s road tripping along the various coastlines of Australia or getting overseas (when possible!)

6. What is your favourite thing about working for Sonar?

I just love the environment – everyone is enthusiastic about their work and there’s always opportunities to try new things and take on different responsibilities.

7. What are your top three songs, books, podcasts, and movies?

Songs: Wild West End – Dire Straits; All Along the Watchtower – Jimi Hendrix; Fearless – Pink Floyd

Books: The Jack Reacher series by Lee Child; Catcher in the Rye; and Educated by Tara Westover

Podcasts: Basically anything about Basketball

Movies: Airplane; Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels; and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

8. What is your favourite food?

The Red Rock Deli Honey Soy Chicken chips.
